William H. (Billy) Benton, 79, passed into the loving arms of our Savior on June 27, 2026. He was a native of Wheeler County and in 1959 the family moved to Claxton, GA.  He was a graduate of Claxton High School, achieving the highest math score in his graduating class. As an Evans county farmer and good steward of the land, Billy raised livestock and prepped, planted, and cultivated 2000+ acres of pastures and row crops. In 1978 Billy moved and lived in Richmond Hill, GA.

In 1974 Billy, hired as a temporary tractor operator at Directorate of Engineering and Housing, Fort Stewart, GA, quickly rose through the ranks as Grounds Maintenance Supervisor and retired with 33 years of service as an Engineering Technician. During his tenure, Billy was involved in two meaningful contract projects for DOD at Fort Stewart. The first in the early 2000s with Canooche Electric who, registered for Federal contract awards, maintained and operated the electrical distribution systems. Secondly Billy planned, designed, and prepared the contract specifications for Fort Stewart's Warrior's Walk on Cottrell Field which is a living memorial honoring the fallen soldiers of the 3rd Infantry Division, who served in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Billy was twice nominated for the Civilian Employee of the Year award at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield for loyalty, dedication to duty, and unwavering support of the 3rd Infantry Division. In March 2006, he retired enjoying 20 years of leisure, travel, and family.

Billy was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Joyous Saints, and the Richmond Hill Lions Club where he served as Secretary.

Billy was a loving husband, a role-model father, a gentle, fun-inspiring grandfather, and a "take the high road" kind of guy. With his friends, he was fun-loving, generous, and kind-hearted. To his employees, Billy was encouraging, recognizing their value, and rewarding them with well-deserved promotions. He was an avid Georgia fan. "GO DAWGS!"

Billy is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Yvonne H. Benton; two sons: John (Marie) Benton of Claxton, GA and Ross (Catherine) Benton of Lovettesville, VA; seven grandchildren: Justin Daniel; Allison Waller; Miles, Taylor, A.J., Robert, and Charlotte Benton; a brother, Clarence (Corky) Benton; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Virgil and Vara Benton; a beloved maternal grandmother, "Ma" Bell Clements; a daughter, Dee Dee Daniel; and a stepmother, Lorene Benton.
