Sergeant First Class Spencer Alexander McCall, devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and dedicated Soldier of the United States Army, passed away on April 13, 2026, at the age of thirty-eight.

Born on January 4, 1988, in Danbury, Connecticut, Spencer was the beloved son of Phillip and Elizabeth McCall. From an early age, he possessed a strong sense of curiosity and adventure, qualities that guided him throughout his life and military career. A deep thinker about human nature, he often questioned and explored the complexities of life, forging his own path with purpose.

Growing up, Spencer enjoyed playing youth baseball, school football, and church league basketball. His interests remained wide-ranging throughout his life and included a love for the beach, especially family vacations to the Florida Panhandle, snowboarding, hiking, hunting and fishing, astronomy, and, above all, his family.

Before enlisting in the Army in 2007, Spencer attended Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School in Atlanta, Georgia; Marist School in Brookhaven, Georgia; and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Spencer proudly served his country as a 19D Cavalry Scout in the United States Army for nearly 20 years, attaining the rank of SFC. He completed One Station Unit Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. His duty stations included Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington; Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Riley, Kansas; the United States Army Recruiting Station in Noblesville, Indiana; and his current duty station Fort Stewart, Georgia. He deployed overseas multiple times, including two deployments to Afghanistan from 2009 to 2010 and from 2012 to 2013 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. SFC McCall was the recipient of numerous ribbons, badges, and medals during his years of service, most notably the following: Global War on Terror Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal Service Ribbon (2), National Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (5), Army Achievement Medal (5 OLC), and Army Commendation Medal (5 OLC). During his service, Spencer developed a particular interest in the Raven drone system, earning certification as an instructor of operation and training.

To those who served beside him, Spencer was not only a leader, but also a mentor and a brother. He earned the respect of fellow Soldiers and commanders alike for his professionalism and for his willingness to uplift and guide those around him.

Beyond his military service, Spencer was deeply devoted to his family. As a husband and father, he was a steady, loyal, and loving presence. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, creating memories, and offering guidance and strength. He will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his son Dexter, who was the defining aspect and light of his life. In addition to his parents, Spencer is survived by his wife, Tara; his son, Dexter; his stepson, Chandler; and his stepdaughter, Mia; his sister, Kelly Mountain (Aaron); his niece, Penelope; his nephew, Samuel; his aunt and godmother, Cecelia Kahler; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as many friends and fellow service members who will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his fraternal grandparents, Clarence and Dorothy McCall; his maternal grandparents, Ralph and Lois Kahler; and his maternal uncle, Robert Kahler.

Spencer will be remembered for his strength of character, his leadership, his dry sense of humor, and his deep love for those closest to him. Whether in uniform or at home, he lived a life defined by honor, service, and dedication. He was widely loved and respected.

Services will be held on April 25, 2026, at Richmond Hill Funeral Home in Richmond Hill, Georgia. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service with full military honors at 2:00 p.m. A reception for family and friends will follow.

SFC Spencer Alexander McCall's legacy of service and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be forever missed and always remembered.
