Sandra Rogers Mahoney, 82, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully in the early morning of April 25, 2026 after a long illness.  She was preceded in death by her cherished husband of 58 years, Roland B. Mahoney Sr, her daughter Debbie Mahoney, her grandson Michael Douglas, and her parents Alliene and Winburn Rogers.

Born in Atlanta on July 10, 1943, she attended Charles Ellis school and was a 1961 graduate of Savannah High School.  While there she met the love of her life, Roland B Mahoney, while he was at Benedictine Military Academy.  They married shortly afterward and in due time welcomed their firstborn child.  They settled on Wilmington Island and three more children followed over the next five years.  Sandra loved being a wife and mother and excelled marvelously at both.  She was active in all school activities for each of her children and was a Cub Scout den mother and worked with the Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader.  As the children grew up she became active in several women's groups and worked for a number of years as a teller at Savannah Bank.  That's when the grandchildren started appearing and her motherly instincts brought her so much joy being with them.

She was a caregiver for both her mother and her mother-in-law when they needed help, and saw each grandchild grow up and marry and start families of their own.  Her last outing in February was her first and only visit with her newborn sixth great grandchild and, although memory loss had long been gnawing away, she instantly lit up and held her "littlest angel" as she had lovingly held each one of her four children, five grandchildren, and her five other great grandchildren.  Her love never ended.

She sustained her fair share of sadness but always met everyone with a smile.  She was side by side with her sweetheart through a lifetime of St Patrick's Day parade activities.  She would drive or fly wherever her children and grandchildren were living to be there for important events or just to give her sweet hand when needed.  She often said, "My dream was to be a wife and mother and it all came true!"  In addition to loving her humans, she was a lifelong lover of animals and was a mom to a multitude of pets for many years.  Little doggies were her very favorite!

Her last years were difficult for her with memory losses and mobility problems, but she pushed through it all with great effort, determination,  dignity, and deep love.  And when she left this world on Saturday morning she was facing a picture of her beloved husband who we know said, "I'm here, Stinker!  Take my hand and let's go."

She is survived by her son, Roland "Buddy" Mahoney, Jr, her daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie & Matt Barre and Claire & John Neal, her dearest sister, Jenell Griffith, her grandchildren and their spouses Ashlee & Ricky Vice, Madison & CJ Kidd, Alex & Sydney Neal, and Chandler & Jake Bingham, as well as her six great grandchildren, Ryker, Brody & Cole Vice, Elliot & Emmett Kidd, and Iris Neal.  She also has many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that she loved dearly!

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Bonaventure Cemetery.
