Samuel M. Axson, age 72, passed away Monday, April 18, 2022 at Candler Hospital.

Sam was born in Savannah, GA.  He has lived in Richmond Hill for the last 33 years.

He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Senior Chief Engineman.  Sam served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years and was a Vietnam Veteran and he served in the Persian Gulf.  He liked bass fishing and playing pool.  Sam was a quiet and simple guy.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Randolph K. Axson.

Sam is survived by his wife, Cynthia Axson of Richmond Hill; his daughter, Maryanna Axson (Reid Geisenhof) of Athens, GA; his sons, Patrick Russell (Rebecca) of Lenexa, KS and Samuel J. Axson (Christi) of Savannah; 11 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Richmond Hill Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the funeral.

Burial with full military honors will be held at Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
