Sam Gorden, age 71, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Hospice Savannah.

Sam was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa.  Sam and his wife, Beverly, moved to Midway, GA in 1990.  He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant in 2010.  He was a firefighter for Lake George Fire Department and served as their Safety Captain for a number of years.

Sam served as a U.S. Marine in the Vietnam War.  After the war, he joined the Texas Air National Guard as a load master.  He then moved to Atlanta where he joined the Georgia Air National Guard and served in the 165 ^th Air National Guard in Savannah.  He deployed all over the world having served in, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Bosnia, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

Sam was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church where he was a CCD teacher and was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus member.  He loved fishing and hunting.  Sam enjoyed traveling throughout the world and he liked family camping.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sanford and Verda Mae Gorden; two daughters, Samantha Gorden Smith and Sabrina Gorden Bishop.

Sam is survived by his wife of 49 years, Beverly Gorden; a daughter, Stacia R. Gorden; a son, Shawn R. Gorden; sisters, Connie Gorden, Pam Gorden, Sandra Gorden, and Deb Lille (Jeff); 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A rosary service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 8, 2022 at St. Anne Catholic Church with a funeral mass to follow at 11:00 a.m.

Inurnment services with military honors will be held at the Georgia Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, GA in November with the date and time to be announced later.
