Captain Robert (Bob) Talmadge Barnette, Jr., died Wednesday, December 13 ^th under the care of Savannah Hospice. He was born in Savannah June 5, 1947, to Robert T. Barnette (deceased) and Betty Boyles Barnette.  He was preceded in death by his brother William James Barnette. He graduated from Savannah High School in 1965 and retired from CSX Railroad in 2007 after 41 years of service.

Capt. Bob is survived by his loving wife Deborah Walker Hilliard Barnette and his children: daughter Susan Hilliard Harden (John) and sons Robert T. Barnette (Tonya), Marc Edwin Barnette (Cindy), and Michael Anthony Barnette (Caycee). He is also survived by his mother, his sister Barbara Barnette Hughes (Robin), three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his much-loved Yorkie, Luci.

Capt. Bob found great pleasure in the outdoors, especially fishing.  A licensed boat captain since 1978, he ran offshore fishing trips through Neva-Miss Charters in Savannah, operating numerous boats including the "Miss Savannah" and the "Lucky One." He was a favorite of customers and boat captains alike. After his retirement, he founded Coastal Charters, where he ran trout trips and especially enjoyed fishing the Gulf of Mexico waters out of Keaton Beach, Florida.  He was a Mason (Landrum Lodge 048) and a member of the Ft. McAllister Fishing Club, serving twice as its president.   He also was active in the Marine Rescue Squadron, Kilkenney Fishing Club, the Savannah Sportfishing Club, Coastal Conservation Association (CCA), and, formerly, the Forest City Gun Club.  He served on the advisory panel of the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council.

Bob was an avid gardener, who loved growing vegetables year-round and sharing those with everyone he knew.  He was an excellent carpenter, having built several homes.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 14 from 6-8 PM at the Richmond Hill Funeral Home with a graveside celebration of Capt. Bob's life on Friday, December 15th at 11 AM in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery. Capt. Bob requested "no ties" to be worn by those attending his service.
