Richard Ravanel Davis, former mayor and life-long resident of Bryan County died peacefully at home with his family Sunday morning,  January 29th. He was born on July 1, 1935, to Rad and Madeline Davis.  They lived in Clyde, Ga, part of the Fort Stewart reservation for the first  few years of his life. He attended school at Richmond Hill, where he  graduated. He married Christine Black of Vidalia, Ga. Together they had  two children, Dean and Chris Davis. His first job was at National Cash  Register (NCR) as a service technician. He was also employed by  Interlogic Trace before opening his own computer sales and service  business.

His love of politics led him to run for city council and then mayor  where he served for a total of thirty-one years. Richard loved Richmond  Hill and always strived to do what was best for the city. Under his  leadership, JF Gregory Park was developed, the Great Ogeechee Seafood festival was revitalized, and sewage and wastewater facilities  were modernized among other accomplishments.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Davis; his son Christopher Davis (Heather); his grandchildren, Mckenzie Davis Raun (Jesse), Richard Davis,  Hannah Davis, Hayden Davis; great grandchildren, Caroline Greeson,  Jenna Raun; siblings, Boyce Davis, Randy Davis (Phyllis); several  nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his son, Dean Russel Davis; sisters Lillie Sheppard, Violet Davis, Avie Rushing;  brothers Toy Davis, Ralph Davis, Lee Davis, and Redge Davis

Funeral service will be held Thursday February 2 nd , at 11 o'clock am at Richmond Hill United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Richmond Hill First Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 1 st from  6 to 8 pm at the Richmond Hill Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers  remembrances may be made to Compassus Hospice or a charity of your choice.
