Norma Lane Tuten, 77, of Richmond Hill, GA went to heaven peacefully at her home, in the loving care of her daughters on April 24, 2023.

Norma was born on April 11, 1946, to the late Tommie and Sarah King Lane in Waycross, GA. She was raised on a farm in Hoboken and graduated from Waycross High School in 1964. Norma received her teaching degree from Georgia Southern, went on to earn her Masters in Early Childhood Education from the University of Georgia, and began her teaching career in Warner Robbins in 1968 before moving to Savannah area in 1976.

Norma married Bobby, her husband of 44 years, in 1978. Together they moved to Richmond Hill in 1986 to build their home on the Tivoli River and raise a family. There Norma enjoyed providing a welcoming place for friends to gather and hosting the family during the holidays.

Norma spent much of her career teaching third grade at Richmond Hill Elementary School where she was awarded Teacher of the Year. She poured her whole heart into her students, and ensured that every lesson was carefully prepared, every bulletin board updated, every desk rearranged, and every paper graded. Even after retiring from over 30 years of doing what she loved, she returned to the classroom teaching several more years at Providence Christian School in Savannah.

Norma was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and Nana.  She was a caregiver, a worrier, and a teacher to her core. Norma loved her family well and was always far more concerned about them than herself. She would always give her best advice to her daughters whether they wanted it or not. One of her greatest joys was giving "sugar" to her grandbabies and spoiling them. Norma was selfless when it came to caring for her family, and we all witnessed that most recently as she cared for her husband in his last days.

The family would love to extend our appreciation to Hospice Savannah and in particular, Betty Jenkins, who cared for both mom and dad.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Bobby Tuten. She is survived by her two daughters, Lauren Jaudon (Johnathan) of Dawsonville and Emily Cooper (Andrew) of Marietta, and a stepson, Jonathan Tuten of Charleston, five grandchildren, Jax (11) and Jett (9) Tuten, Jackson (5), Wyatt (2) and Audrey Kate (8 months) Cooper, sisters Wanda Farmer (Joe) and Shirley Carter, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other close family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your favorite educator, local school, or local library.

Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm with a funeral service at 2:00 pm, Friday, April 28, 2023 at the Richmond Hill Funeral Home.  Burial to follow at Richmond Hill First Baptist Church cemetery.
