Monir Zahraei, affectionately known to her friends as Nilofar or Lily, passed away on [9th of June 2025]. Her love for animals and her unwavering desire to protect them were defining aspects of her life.  She lived a life of devotion and service to others.

Monir's compassionate spirit extended to her two beloved adopted dogs, Patches and Duke, who will miss her dearly.

Monir's life was a testament to kindness and dedication. She leaves behind her sibling John, Mansoupreh, Kamal and Hossain, and her fiancé along with his family. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.

In honor of Monir, her fiancé, Mehr, wishes to share the following poem.

"Stop All the Clocks" by W.H. Auden, which captures the profound sense of loss we feel:

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,

Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,

Silence the pianos and with muffled drum

Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead

Scribbling on the sky the message she Is Dead,

Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,

Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

She was my North, my South, my East and West,

My working week and my Sunday rest,

My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;

A celebration of Monir's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Richmond Hill Funeral Home.
