On Sunday May 15, 2022, Michael Joseph Kane, best known as pawpaw, passed peacefully with loved ones by his side at Hospice of Savannah Georgia. Mike was born on October 21, 1945, in Bennington, Vermont. Mike was the second oldest child in a family of eight siblings to his late parents John and Julia Kane.

Upon his graduation from Mt. Anthony Union High School in Bennington, Mike joined the US Navy. This adventure led him many wonderful locations around world, but a key location was Jacksonville, Florida where he would meet his bride of 52 wonderful years, Betty Colleen Kane, and her son Erick Shawn, whom Mike later adopted and loved as his own.

In 1988, Mike fully retired from his career in the Navy where he earned the rank of Command Master Chief after 24 dedicated years to his country. Mike also became acquainted with a friend he would have to his last breath, grandson Timothy Shawn Kane.

Mike built a successful business in Jacksonville, Florida which afforded him a second retirement at the early age of 50 where he relocated with his wife and grandson to Beech Creek, West Virginia. There he was able to fully enjoy with friends and family his hobby of hunting, fishing, camping, and enjoying Almost Heaven off his front porch. He also saw the start of his next chapter, becoming a great grandfather to Bryson Shawn and Alana Paige Kane.

As if retirement would seem fulfilling enough, Mike and Betty relocated in late 2021 to Richmond Hill, GA with Timmy, and his wife Courtney Kane, to be immersed in their favorite roles yet as live in great grandparents. He in fact became quite a pool boy and kept his puppy Deuce very well fed.

Survivors include his wife Betty, grandson Timothy and Courtney Kane with grandchildren Bryson and Alana, son Erick Shawn Kane, daughter in-law Pamila Linder Kane. Siblings Daniel and Susan Kane, Patricia Mongiat, Peter and Linda Kane, Kitty Hayes, James and Vicki Kane. Brother in-law Bruce and Carol Murphy, sister in-law Martha and Carl Spires, brother in-law Joey Murphy

Special survivors include Bo Kennedy, Johnny Earl Murphy, Jim Hudson, great-nephew Connor Dotson, honorary great grandchildren Hudson and Nolan Whitt, who lovingly referred to him as Pawpaw Mike, as well as a host of family and friends who will miss him greatly.

Also, preceding him in death was his brother Tony J Kane, sister Susan "Ducky" O'Brien, and special friend with whom he served in the Navy with, Brian Bruns.

There will not be a memorial service, only a simple gravesite moment as his ashes is placed in the family cemetery in Foundation Branch Beech Creek, WV. The date of this will be announced at a future time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for remembrance to take form of a home cooked dinner with your loved ones; as this was a principle to Mike for belief in family being together to share their day, moments, and thoughts together each day.
