Obituary

RICHMOND HILL – Melba Huggins Chiles, 92, passed away on August 31 st , 2017.    She was born in Oliver, Ga. on March 20, 1925.   Melba was a longtime member of Bull Street Baptist Church.  She lived in Savannah for the majority of her life but spent the past year in Richmond Hill, Ga.   Mrs. Chiles was a graduate of the Georgia Southern University and received a degree in education. She was a devoted educator in the Wayne County School system.    She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Chiles, her parents, Robert and Lucille Huggins; her brothers, Kenny Huggins, Walt Huggins, and John Huggins,

Surviving are her children, Laura Swenson Register (Sean); Deborah Ann Brinkman and Frederick Robert Swenson (Linda); and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Melba devoted herself to her family as a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother.  Throughout her life, she had a heart that was large enough to include any person who needed a little extra love, advice, or encouragement. For those who knew her, they will always cherish her unforgettable humor, priceless comments and willingness to engage in conversation with everyone.

The family wishes to thank her caregivers at The Station Exchange in Richmond Hill.

A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 am, Saturday, September 2, at Richmond Hill Funeral Home.  The Funeral service will be on the same day at 11 am and will be held in the Chapel at the funeral home.   Burial to follow at Little Ogeechee Baptist Church Cemetery in Oliver, Ga.
