Mary "Sue" Shaffer, 81, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 2, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, service, and devotion to her family, friends, and to those she cared for throughout her life as a devout disciple of Christ and a dedicated registered nurse.
Sue committed her professional life to nursing, bringing compassion, kindness, tenacity and a genuine desire to help others to her work. Her caring nature extended far beyond her profession, touching the lives of her family, neighbors, animals, plants and anyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Sue loved the Savior, serving multiple church missions, one in which she cared for hundreds of young missionaries in the Georgia Atlanta Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a mission nurse and mother figure.
She is survived by her husband, Phil Shaffer, and her three sons: Rich (Lisa), Jay (Susanne), and Eric (Brandee), as well as step-children Phil (Monica), Jenny, Jonathan (Brittany), & Becky. Sue was a beloved & fun grandma to 22 grandchildren & 1 great-grandchild.
Her family will remember her compassion, faith, strength, and the many ways she made a lasting difference in the lives of the people she loved.
A memorial service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1200 King George Blvd., Savannah, Georgia, on Thursday, October 8.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 12:00 p.m.
Family and friends are invited to gather together to celebrate and honor Sue’s life, the love, and the many memories she leaves with all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Association in her name.
