Maria C. Burton, 53 years old Richmond Hill native, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018 in her home surrounded by loved ones due to pancreatic cancer. Born November 17, 1965 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Maria was the oldest of four children of Pedro (preceded in death) and Rosalia Mayol. Maria and her siblings Reynaldo Mayol, Blanca Lozada, and Evelyn Davis graduated from Richmond Hill High School. Maria graduated in 1984 and was cheerleading captain, she went on to attain an associate's degree in accounting at Savannah Tech. Maria had four children of her own, Rosemary Mitts, Junior Rodriguez, Augustina Doyen, and is proceeded in death by her youngest Anthony Doyen.

Maria had a long and wonderful career as a 911 dispatcher for both McIntosh and Bryan County Sheriff's Departments. She retired from Bryan County Sheriff's Department in April 2015, and moved to Erie, PA, with her loving husband Jeffery Burton. They shared a beautiful home with their son Junior, Jeff's mother Lavada Burton and their pug-beagle Buster. They created a beautiful garden together she wanted for Jeff to remember her, full of wildlife and gorgeous flowers.

Maria had a love for creating things with her hands and was very gifted in all things crafting, decorating, gardening and food related. She was always making something new that she dreamed up. Maria had an infectious laugh, amazing sense of humor, smile that would light up an entire room, and the best hugs in the world. Maria was also quite the practical jokester always playing tricks on friends and family, jumping out and scaring them. She also loved horror movies, singing at the top of her lungs in the car and dancing while she cleaned.

Maria is survived by her husband Jeff, Mother Rosalia Mayol, siblings Reynaldo, Blanca (Nelson), Evelyn (Bernard), and numerous nieces and nephews Stephen (Evan and Sophia) and Jessica Mayol, Jordan Davis, Nicole (Ariella), Jonathan, and Corey Lozada. Her children Rosemary (Richard), Junior, Augustina, and her grandchildren, Peter and Liam Mitts. She also has many cousins from her aunts Carmen and Jenny.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Richmond Hill Funeral Home. Private funeral services will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018.
