Lt. Col. George Sering Zier, USAF (Ret.) passed away peacefully in his sleep October 1, 2023 at age 76. He was born February 23, 1947 in Neptune, New Jersey. A resident of Richmond Hill, GA for the last decade, George's legacy will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

George was a beacon of dedication and service. In 1969, he proudly graduated from the United States Air Force Academy and embarked on a distinguished 21-year career with the Air Force. Throughout his tenure, he earned his pilot wings and shared his expertise as a pilot instructor. Demonstrating his versatility and commitment, George then attended the University of Georgia where he earned his law degree in 1977, and took on the honorable role of a staff Judge Advocate for the Air Force.

Upon his retirement from the Air Force in 1990, George worked for 18 years as Senior Assistant Attorney General for the state of Georgia. He held a profound pride in his contributions to the growth and prosperity of Georgia.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, George nurtured a lifelong passion for model railroading. As a member of the National Model Railroaders Association and chairman of the Cripple Creek & Savannah Southern Railroad, he brought joy and a sense of community to many fellow enthusiasts. He delighted in sharing this passion and doting on his five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harold George Zier and Constance Skokos Zier. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Deborah "Dee" Zier, his sister Cathy Diane Zier, his daughter Cate Ellen Rush, and his son Scott Sering Zier. He leaves five grandchildren Ben Rush, Liam Rush, Owen Rush, Elle Zier, and Zoey Zier.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at a graveside service 1pm on Friday, October 6th, at Oconee Memorial Park in Watkinsville, Georgia or at a visitation in Richmond Hill on Wednesday, October 4th, from 5pm to 7pm at Richmond Hill Funeral Home.
