Loretta J. Carter, age 84, passed away Monday, December 25, 2023 at Memorial Health University Medical Center.

Loretta was born in Darien, GA.  She was a former long time resident of Savannah before making Richmond Hill her home 15 years ago.  She was a member of Coastal Community Christian Church in Richmond Hill.

Loretta was a homemaker and active in her church.  She loved Jesus and her church.  The joy of her life was her family and she got her eighth great-grandchild this year.

She married a military man at 16 and within months, moved to England.  She started a family there and then she and her husband came back to the U.S. and continued to raise a large family.

Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Carter, Jr.; two sons, Daniel Allen Carter and Michael William Carter; and a brother, Reid McKee.

She is survived by her children, Linda Carter Bergman (Mike), David Carter, Mark Carter, and Paul Carter (Melony); a brother, Ray McKee (Sherry); her grandchildren, Jared Bergman (Sonia), Amy Rifenburg (Michael), Cory Carter (Katie), Paige Robbins (Ben), Madison Carter, Mitchell Carter, Benjamin Carter, Megan Carter Pitts (Nick), Nathan Carter, Gavin Carter; her great-grandchildren, Maddux, Darcy, and Lincoln Rifenburg, Carter Anne and Guerin Martin, Asher and Drew Robbins, and Retta Mae Pitts.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Coastal Christian Community Church with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Inurnment will be held at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery in Savannah.
