Kathryn Gladys Holme Rice, age 94, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 24, 2026 at her home in Richmond Hill, Georgia. She lived a rich and full life even after enduring a stroke that left her partially paralyzed the last two months of her life.

Kathy was born in Detroit, Michigan to Edna and Robert Holme, the youngest of eight children. She grew up in Dearborn, Michigan until the age of twelve when, at the death of her parents, she and her sister Ruth were raised by their oldest sister and brother-in law, Marion "Mamie" and Victor Anderson in Owensboro, Kentucky. She then became "sister-Aunt" to 6 brothers/nephews. Kathy met her husband at Western University in
Bowling Green, Kentucky and they married and moved to Florida (Bradenton and then St. Petersburg), where they raised their family. In the last eleven years, she and Forrest relocated to Richmond Hill, Georgia to be near their youngest daughter Kay, who has faithfully and lovingly cared for them since.

Kathy's professional training was as a hair stylist, but she spent her years in Florida working with her husband as office manager for Anderson Windows and Doors and then Alcan, Inc. when the family business merged. Known as Kitty to her siblings and Nanny to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, her love language was cooking and baking for others. Her daughters grew up experiencing her informal dinner parties, complete with delicious food and warm fellowship and it was impossible to visit her without taking home a bag of chocolate church windows or seasoned pretzels. She was also known for her water aerobics and taught classes for years at the campground they stayed at during the summer months. Kathy would do anything for her family, taking the grandkids on extended trips with Forrest, as well as both of them supporting the family in every walk of life. After every grandchild was born, she would stay two weeks with her daughters, helping them adjust to the new lives that had become part of her family! She was quite a "card" in many ways….. playing card games regularly with her entire family and always willing to join in with a prank or fun time!

Kathy's faith in God was strong, having joined her husband in creating a pathway for their girls to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She was a member of the non-denominational Christian Church, and for a season, taught Sunday School to sixth grade children. She and Forrest faithfully served in church through the years in whatever was needed and regularly supported other ministry efforts beyond their tithing to their home church.

Kathy was preceded in death by her beloved son, Ronnie Rice, son-in-law, Larry Sparrow and grandson-in-law Danny Sharpe. She is survived by her husband of 74+ years, Forrest Rice (98 years); by her daughters Vicki Sparrow and Kay Abel; by her grandchildren Jocelyn Schroyer, Adrienne Smith/David, Zachary Sparrow/Katy, Carrie Howard/CJ, Stuart Abel IV, Crystal Sharpe, David Abel/Rebecca; and by her great grandchildren Zoe, Josiah and Tobias Schroyer, Declan and Anya Smith, Kaylee Howard, Quinn and Brantley Abel, Daniel and Gracie Sharpe, and Sydney and Lillie Abel. Kathy is also survived by two of her brothers/nephews Norman and John Anderson, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 3rd at 11:00 am at The Waterfront Church (134 Thunderbird Drive, Richmond Hill, GA). In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a gift in Kathy's memory to The Waterfront Church.
