Jonathan Robert King, age 41, passed away on October 29, 2026. Born on January 6, 1985, in Atlanta, Georgia, Jonathan grew up in Pike County and later made his home in Richmond Hill.
Jonathan was a deeply patriotic man who considered it both an honor and a duty to serve his country. With more than 20 years of military service, he demonstrated an unwavering commitment to his country and the values he held dear.
At the time of his passing, Jonathan served as Lieutenant Colonel and Battalion Commander of the 221st Intelligence and Electromagnetic Warfare Battalion of the Georgia Army National Guard. He served in Afghanistan and Iraq, where he received a Bronze Star as well as received additional military distinctions. He was also a proud Eagle Scout and a member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Jonathan earned his bachelor's degree from the University of North Georgia, a place he loved and remembered fondly. He was pursuing a master's degree in Cybersecurity at the Georgia Institute of Technology at the time of his passing.
Those who knew Jonathan will remember his joyful spirit, his constant smile, and those dimples. He was a loyal friend, a kindhearted man, and someone who believed deeply in kindness and giving back. He enjoyed Star Wars, Florida Gators football, and games of all kinds, but his greatest love was his family. His family was his world, and his love for them was evident in everything he did.
Jonathan is survived by his loving wife, Laura "Beth" King; his daughters, Sage and Lily King; his parents, Robert and Marsha King; his sister, Rachel King; and his brother, Matthew Steele, along with Matthew's wife, Keri, and their children, Tyler, Isabella, and Samuel. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Faye Jones of Orlando, Florida, and Robert Eugene and Eva May of Union City, Georgia.
Jonathan leaves behind a legacy of service, kindness, friendship, and profound love for his family. He will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his generous heart, his infectious smile, and the love he gave so freely to those around him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 5th at 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. at Richmond Hill Funeral Home, 8901 Ford Avenue, Richmond Hill, Georgia 31324. An honor guard will be present to recognize Jonathan's dedicated military service.
