John William McElveen

John William McElveen, 64, passed away on October 29, 2026.

He spent 35 years living in Richmond Hill, Georgia, after previously residing in Midway. He retired after 28 years as an electrical engineer with Coastal Electric.

He was the former Chairman of the Richmond Hill Planning and Zoning Commission. He was a US Army Veteran and enjoyed riding dirt bikes.

He was preceded in death by his parents John Brooks McElveen and Frances Decker Riggs McElveen; his step-mother Faye Walker Kirby McElveen; his step-sister, Renee Kirby Shaw; and a granddaughter, Natalie Ouimette.

He is survived by his wife, Alice McElveen; his daughters, Nicole Gay (Bradley) and Katie McElveen; his half-sisters, Rose Riggs Harvey and Sandra Riggs Thompson (Don); and his grandchildren, Brandon, Carson, Kimberly, Ryan, and Hailey.

A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
