In Loving Memory of John Henry Maddox, III

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Henry Maddox, III, a vibrant soul whose adventurous spirit touched the lives of many.

Born in Sylvester, GA, Johnny embraced life as an exciting adventure. His journey led him across the states, from the majestic landscapes of Montana, Alaska, and Colorado to the bustling cities of Atlanta and Athens, finally placing his roots in the coastal town of Richmond Hill, Georgia.

The great outdoors was Johnny's playground - whether he was mountain biking, navigating white water rapids, or racing through trails on his motor cross bike. Johnny had a large love for music, going to concerts, and spending time with his friends. His love for life was infectious, making him the heart of every party and gathering. Wherever he went, Johnny was not without his true loves, his wife Rachel and precious daughters Zoë and Poppy. Johnny was also extremely close with his mother, Anne, and other family members. Overall, family was very important to him.

Professionally, Johnny was the proud owner of Maddox Contractors, Inc. and his dedication was evident in every project he undertook.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Lawson Hobby.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Rachel Gorton Maddox; his children, Zoë Grace Maddox and Penelope "Poppy" Olive Maddox; his mother, Anne Hobby; his father, John Maddox, Jr.; a sister, Kimberly Maddox Hyman (Chip); a stepbrother, Scott Hobby (Carson); nieces, Emily Hyman and Mackie Hobby; nephews, Chandler Hyman and Henry Hobby; his mother and father-in-law, Andrew and Helen Gorton; and his brother- in-law, James Gorton.

As we celebrate Johnny's life, we invite you to join us on October 21, 2023, from 2 pm to 6 pm, at The Savannah Station located at 601 Cohen Street. Together, let us remember the laughter, the adventures, and the love that defined Johnny's journey.

In lieu of flowers, should one desire, donations may be made in his name to Nuçi Space which will honor Johnny's passion for giving back and spreading kindness or one may donate towards a college fund set up for Zoë and Poppy.
