Joan Vernon Williams, age 64, of Midway, GA departed this life on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at St. Joseph's Hospital after a short illness.

Joan was born on December 1, 1957, in Liberty County, GA.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Ms. Annette Sernortia Pulley and Mr. Willie James Lee; mother/grandmother, Ms. Maggie L. Harley; sister, Tawanda T. Pulley; aunts, Mary Lee Quinones, Willie Mae Miller; uncles, Alex Williams, Sinclair Williams and Spencer Clark.

Joan lived in Fleming for a number of years prior to moving to Midway in 1994.  She attended the public schools of Liberty County. At an early age, she became a member of St. James A.M.E. Church in Fleming, GA. She was a personal care assistant for Charlene Harris for 18 years.  She enjoyed knitting, braiding hair, fishing/crabbing, and gardening

Because Joan realized youth development enrichment activities and child-care services for low-income families and empowering families were missing in Midway and surrounding communities, in 2013, she co-founded the MJM Foundation, Inc., a non-profit youth development organization.   Joan devoted much of time mentoring and tutoring children at MJM Foundation, Inc.

She leaves to cherish her memories three sons, Terrell (Renee) Williams of Midway, Jerrell (Shondell) Williams of Midway, and Dontay (Terra) Williams of Savannah; sisters, Danise L. Williams, Wanda Lowery, Felicia Lee, Sherly Lee, Mari Lee, and Denae Whipple all of Savannah; brothers, Daniel J. (Rhonda) Pulley, Daniel Jamie (Yolanda) Pulley, Robert M. Pulley, Darryl Lee all of Savannah, and Earl Lee of Florida; 9 grandchildren, Shonteria K. Williams, Terrica T. Williams, Robert D. Royal, Leia M. Williams, Devonta A. Brown, Tysherrell T. Williams, Tyshenise T. Williams, Terrell Williams, Jr., and Jerrell D. Williams; aunt Edna (Johnny) Blige of Fleming; uncles Warren (Gracia) Williams of Hinesville and Calvin Williams of Midway; special cousins, Covodis Williams of Savannah and Vera Olivia Hines-Latty of Hollis, NY and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 16, 2022, at MJM Foundation, Inc., 487 Limerick Road, Midway, GA.31320 ( Mask Required)
