Joan Dewey Mapes, age 91, passed away Friday, November 3, 2023.

Joan was born in Syracuse, NY.  She lived in Ohio and Pompano Beach for many years before moving to Richmond Hill 11 years ago.

She was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a retired school teacher.  Joan was an avid reader and liked to sing in the choir.

Joan is preceded in death by a her daughter, Valerie Susan Mapes.

She is survived by her son, Arthur Harry Mapes, Jr. (Laura); two sisters, Phyllis Freedman and Ann Migdal; a brother, Richard "Dick" Dewey;  her grandchildren, Brihanna, Zoe, and Lindsey; and her great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kyra, and London.

Visitation will will be conducted at the Richmond Hill Funeral Home, Thursday, November 9th, 2023 from 11:00 till 11:45, with a  Memorial service for Mrs. Mapes immediately following.
