Jerry D. Hill of San Antonio, Tx., died June 26, 2020, from injuries suffered in a car accident.

His deep love of family was always evident during his 81 years of life. The first birthday card received by a sibling, niece, nephew, or friend was usually from Jerry. Photos of family were proudly displayed in every room of his home. Many of the family memories were made during Christmas parties hosted by Jerry at the old Warwick Hotel. His suite would have a beautifully decorated Christmas tree with presents galore underneath. Fruitcakes from Corsicana, along with candies, nuts, and other treats from Neiman's were always plentiful. Following a wonderful holiday meal and opening presents, the nickel poker game lasted well into the night.

Jerry loved life and lived his life in a big way. He loved a good party and hosted many in his home in San Antonio. Enjoying a good book, "Old Hollywood" movies, and late-night phone calls were favorite pastimes. His "easy listening" radio station and music from the 40's and 50's were always playing. He wasn't one to spend very much time in the kitchen, but he mastered a couple of his favorite dishes: salmon and scrambled eggs and chipped beef on toast. He always had fruitcake in his freezer and pickled eggs in the pantry.

It was evident to all that Jerry had impeccable taste. From the beautiful antiques, chandeliers, and furnishings in his home to his carefully chosen wardrobe. Even when only going on daily errands he wore a sport coat, perfectly starched long sleeve dress shirt, and one of his favorite ties. When dressing casually in winter, his cashmere sweaters and jackets were his first choice. In spring and summer, he loved wearing white slacks and white loafers.…..maybe even a little past the season.

Jerry was preceded in death by his best friend and life partner for over 40 years, Bob Linberg; grandmother, Lois Chamberlin; father, Gerald J. Hill; mother, Paula Chamberlin Hill; stepmother, Maine Brooks Hill Young; and brother, Joe Hill.

He is survived by sisters Dr. Nina (Ray) Vitek and Gigi (Jerry) Margoni; brother Paul (Carlos) Hill, nieces Brettne (Patrick) Frewin and Ashley Ben-David; nephews Brandon (Lauren) Abel and John (Tracey) West; 11 great nieces and nephews and 1 great-great niece, all of Houston.

Jerry will be remembered by all who knew him as "a true southern gentleman". His final resting place will be at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia, amongst the beautiful azaleas, magnolias, and Spanish moss dangling from the trees. His final reminder to us all: "May the bumps in life be like the bubbles in a glass of champagne".
