Janet Royal Wittkamp, age 94, departed this life on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at her home in Savannah, surrounded by her loving family. Born in 1930 to Daniel Bernice and Ella Carter Royal, she grew up in Broxton, GA, and later became a life-long resident of Savannah.

Janet's early career started at the Kress Department Store and then C&S Bank before embracing the role of homemaker. Her compassionate spirit led her to volunteer for many years at Azalealand Nursing Home, Cohens Men's Retreat, and Abercorn Rehabilitation Center, where she lovingly attended to the residents' hair and spent time visiting with them.

As a founding member of Stephenson Avenue Pentecostal Holiness Church and a regular attendee at the Southside Assembly of God Church, Janet's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, with her family and her faith being the very essence of her heart. Janet found happiness in sewing for her family and others.

Janet was an avid gardener, and her yard was a beautiful reflection of her love for this activity. Janet was known for collecting clippings from plants she found interesting during her travels. She believed that no one would question the nice elderly southern lady as she pinched off leaves and gathered seeds. Janet took pleasure in sharing her love of gardening with family and friends, often giving away the plants she
grew from those cuttings and seeds.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Sinclair Wittkamp Jr, who passed in 2000, along with 11 brothers and sisters. Janet is survived by her children, Arlene DuBois (Raymond), Sheila Wittkamp, and Neal Wittkamp (Sarah); a sister, Eloise Gattis; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great-granddaughters.

Visitation for Janet will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 26, at the Richmond Hill Funeral Home with funeral services on Thursday, February 27, at 1:00 p.m. also at the Richmond Hill Funeral Home. Janet will be laid to rest alongside her loving husband in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah.
