James Edward Hendley Sr. 89, of Richmond Hill, Georgia passed away peacefully on November 21, 2022.

He began his life on November 19, 1933 in Hickory, North Carolina to the late James Arthur Hendley and Mary Bell Hawn Hendley. He graduated from Commercial High School 1952. There he met and began dating "Mrs. Commercial" who would later become his wife, Mrs. Ann Hendley. They married in 1954 and remained married for 64 years until Ann's passing in 2018.

Jimmy was in the Air Force Reserve 4 years and was called up into the Air Force for 2 years.   Jimmy then returned to his job at The Central of Georgia Railroad and served as the local chairman for the UTU 1031. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad in 1989 after 40 years of service.

He made Richmond Hill, GA his home in 1980 at the Old Michell's Fishing Camp where he began his great adventure. His home, shop, barbeque pit, dock, and property became the place for many gatherings. Every afternoon around 5 o'clock the old man's club would gather for "Tea Time" and discuss current events and gossip. There was no need to call in advance. Anyone was welcome to come to the shop, sit in one of those comfy shop chairs, watch the Braves game on T.V., and reminisce about the good times.

Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman and marksman. He knew how to hunt, shoot, trap, fish, shrimp, boat, and kayak. He went on many hunting trips to places such as Canada, South Dakota, and West Georgia. He was also a long time member of the Forest City Gun Club in Savannah, GA.

He was one of the  founding fathers of St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church. He helped plan and build the church.

He was a 25 year member of the Marine Rescue Squadron as well as a member of Landrum Masonic Lodge and honorary member of Bryan Lodge 303.

The memories, teachings, and life lessons he has given his own family and grandchildren, community, and the people he has met are sure to last a lifetime. His life wasn't anything short of adventure.

He is preceded in death by his wife Ann Hendley and daughter Sherrie Hendley. He is survived by his sister Carolyn Tucker, daughter Teresa Slater (Matt), Jon Strickland, Grandson James Edward Hendley III (Briana), Granddaughter Katie Almand (Tyler), Grandson Benjamin Sikes (Kayla), and great grandchildren: Addie, Hendley, John Morgan, Kalder, Ellington, Koast.

In lieu of flowers the family would suggest making a donation to one of the following organizations in which Jimmy was passionate about: St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church, Marine Rescue Squadron of Richmond Hill, or the Masonic Children's Hospital.
