James Dom Donatelli, a devout Catholic, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away from natural causes on July 19, 2024 at the age of 87. Jim lived a life dedicated to his faith, family, and country, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was known for his kindness, wisdom, and fierce loyalty to those that he loved.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA on January 31, 1937, he grew up in the Italian community of Bloomfield in a close-knit family instilling in him a strong work ethic and family values that he carried with him throughout his life.

Demonstrating his unwavering commitment to duty and service, Jim received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in April 1966 for his service in Germany.  After returning home to Pittsburgh, he pursued a successful career as a financial planner with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and later with Principal Financial Group.

Jim moved to Richmond Hill, GA for his retirement years, where he dedicated his time as a docent at the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force in Pooler, GA.  His passion for history and his desire to honor the brave men and women who served during World War II shined through as he shared their stories with visitors from around the world.

True to his Pittsburgh roots, Jim was a lifelong fan of the Steelers and never missed a game.  His passion for the Steelers was just another reflection of his loyalty and a source of countless discussions with his family.

Jim was a source of strength and guidance for his family, always offering a listening ear, words of encouragement, and a warm hug.  He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Helen Donatelli, Catherine, his first wife of 24 years and his granddaughter, Keegan Donatelli.

He is survived by Mary Ellen, his loving wife of 34 years, four children, Joyce (Scott) Crump, Jim (Kim) Donatelli, Jennifer (Dustin) Thomas, and Angela (Jeff) Smith, who brought him immense joy and pride. His eleven grandchildren, Mike (Ashley) Crump, Matt (Allyson) Crump, Kate (Kevin) Daluyin, Dave Crump, Dory Donatelli, Will Donatelli, Noah Smith, Cooper Thomas, Gavin Smith, Harper Thomas, Hudson Thomas and five great grandchildren, Savannah Crump, Wesley Crump, DJ Crump, Collin Crump, Malachi Daluyin were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Jim is also survived by his sister Patti Fern who shares in his love of family and history.

A funeral Mass will be held this Wednesday, July 24th at 11:00 AM at Jim's beloved St. Anne Catholic Church, where he spent so many years in prayer and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Anne's (www.stannerh.org) or Trump For President 2024 (www.donaldjtrump.com) in Jim's memory.
