Jacqueline Marina Smith, June 19, 1946 – May 12, 2022

When you hear someone laugh in a crowded room and everyone turns their head to smile…that was our mom. She had an addictive personality that drew people in and always made you feel welcome in her home, the place where the neighborhood kids always congregated.

Jackie was born in London, England, to the late Kenzie Smith, a US soldier, and late Maria Blackinton (Smith/Chinossi), an Italian immigrant. As a toddler, she was brought to the United States with her parents, and was shortly blessed with three sisters, her best friends for life: Christine Carlson (Dcd), Caroline Blackinton, and Gail Smith (Dcd). Her father was a builder who built custom homes, and they moved around often throughout southeast Michigan, but finally settled in Birmingham, Michigan, where she lived across the street from her future husband, Paul Logsdon (Dcd).

Throughout her life, she would often reminisce about her fondest memories of when she and Paul lived their first few years of marriage in Hawaii while he was enlisted in the US Navy. She was a young 20-year-old bride, away from home for the first time, and they were living the adventure of a lifetime.

Her family soon grew with the arrival of their son, Matthew Logsdon, who was born while they were stationed in Long Beach, California. After leaving the military a year later, she and Paul moved back to Michigan to be closer to their family and their daughter, Danielle Ilyasov (Logsdon), arrived.

Her biggest joy in life came when she became a 'Nonna' to Ryan, Viktor, Ashleigh, Jacob, Alex, and Brandon. She was truly made for the role of being a grandma. Jackie was also a Jeopardy master, a knitting queen, crossword puzzle wizard, and reading addict. She spent every Saturday morning taking her two children, and later her three youngest grandchildren to the library to instill the love of reading in them.

She is survived by her son, Command Master Chief Matthew Logsdon (Anne), daughter, Danielle Ilyasov (Henry), sister, Caroline Blackinton, all six grandchildren, Ryan Logsdon, Ashleigh Logsdon, Viktor Ilyasov, Jacob Ilyasov, Alexander Ilyasov, and Brandon Ilyasov.

She was proceeded in death by her father, Kenzie Smith, mother Maria Blackinton, sisters Chris Carlson and Gail Smith, her former husband Paul Logsdon.

Jackie passed away in Savannah, Georgia with her family by her side. Her celebration of life will be held in July in Michigan where she will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, in Southfield with her grandmother, her mother, and her sister Gail.
