Ira Valda Wells, 94, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2022 at his home with his family at his bedside.

He was born November 5, 1927 in Jacksonville, GA to the late Governor W. and Olive Harriett Hulett Wells.  He was educated in Telfair County public schools.  While serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, he was an MP in charge of transporting German POW's to the Nuremberg Trials.  He was later stationed Ft. Stewart, GA.  It was at this time, he met his future wife, Wilma Marie Harden of Keller, GA.  They were married December 11, 1948 at Bryan Neck Presbyterian Church.

Ira worked as a plumber for 69 years and was the oldest member of Local Union #188.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and traveling.  He loved his family and friends.

Besides his parents and siblings, Ira was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma of 68 years, and his son, Gerald Wayne Wells.

He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Hamilton (David); three grandchildren, Lisa Hamilton Mazzeo (Paul), Allen Hamilton (Allie), and Laura Wells Jenkins (Brett); five great-grandchildren, Mya Hamilton, Patrick, Alexander, and Thomas Mazzeo, and Sawyer Jenkins; one great-great-granddaughter, Natalie Smith; and a special niece, Brenda Wells Tanner (Allen).

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Corinth Baptist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service.
