With a heavy heart, we are sorry to announce the passing of Grace. She left us on Tuesday, December 27th after a long battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Grace was born in Preble County Ohio to a large family of 9 siblings. She was married to an Englishman –John Glimmerveen – and had a daughter, Bethany, and a granddaughter, Lucy. From Ohio she lived in a number of states with her then husband, also called John ("easier to remember" she once said!), before moving to the Savannah/Richmond Hill area of Georgia, and falling in love with the first colonial town.

Her love of Savannah and its history took her to study the subject at University, where she graduated with a B.A. in History, from Armstrong Atlantic State University in June 1997. She also went on to achieve a master's degree in adult education from the University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens.

Most people in the area will remember Grace for her work as a senior student advisor working for Armstrong University which later became Georgia Southern University. She was dedicated to the success of students, even during her years fighting cancer.

For fun, Grace loved writing. She wrote two fiction books and one nonfiction history of her favorite city, Savannah. She also wrote for the online site About.com which was part of the New York Times.

Her love of life and positive attitude (along with an incredible sense of humor) will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday January 2, 2022 at Richmond Hill Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  Additional services in Ohio will be announced soon.
