George William Hammond passed away after a short illness. He was a lifelong resident of Richmond Hill, Georgia, except for the time he proudly served in the United States Navy.

George was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Richmond Hill and lived a life grounded in faith. He is now at peace in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He was married to his beloved wife, Glennie Elizabeth (Stanford) Hammond of Oliver, Georgia. Together they shared many years of love and commitment.

George was preceded in death by his father, Claude Nelsen Hammond, and his mother, Pearl (Owens) Hammond, brothers, Robert Edward Hammond (Elaine) and William C. Hammond. He is also preceded in death by his brother-in-law Jimmy L. Stanford.

He is survived by his wife, Glennie Stanford Hammond, along with extended family members including his nephew, Michael E. Hammond; niece, Melinda Anne (Hammond) Rhew and her husband Tim; sister-in-law, Hilda Stanford; and several cousins, including Arlene Dubois (Ray), Sheila Wittkamp, and Carolyn Kimmer and her husband Nelson.

George retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation after many years of dedicated service.

Funeral services are under the direction of a Richmond Hill funeral home. Interment will be in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia, in the Owens family plot at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Hospice of Savannah.

George will be remembered for his faith, dedication to family, and service to his country and community.
