Fred Newlin Sr was born in Sylvester GA on Sept 17, 1935 the son of Osceola Strother Newlin and Lucion Kennerly Newlin Sr. He grew up in a loving home alongside his brother Ken , fondly known as "Bubba". The Newlin family loved to fish and hunt and spent summers fishing at a camp in Ridgeland, SC. Fred met his sweetheart and bride of 67 years , Mary Alice Trammell, while attending college at Valdosta State. They were married in Sumner, GA, on March 11, 1956. Fred was quick to say that he was not the best at everything in life, but he sure was a good wife picker!

Fred worked as a pharmaceutical Salesman for over 3 decades. He won many awards for his success in sales and was named "SalesMaster" for Warren-Teed and Adria Labs year after year. Fred and Mary Alice moved to Richmond Hill from Savannah in 1965. They raised their family of four children on the Ogeechee River at Rabbit Hill near Strathy Hall where they resided back when Richmond Hill was more of a neighborhood than a city. They moved to Jerico Island in Midway, GA in 1989. Fred has lived at Station Exchange Senior care in Richmond Hill since 2021.

Fred loved God, his family, his fellowman, and fishing. Fred lived almost all of his adult life near rivers and lakes. He fished every chance he had. This passion started when he was a boy and his family fished together. He was born with fishing fever. Almost every picture of Fred has him holding a fish – and usually it's a big one! Fred carried Polaroid fish pictures in his shirt pocket and had a fish tale at the ready. Like any good fisherman, Fred guarded his fishing secrets. If you asked him where he caught a fish he would smile and tell you "in the corner of the mouth". Fred's fish stories were legendary with the physicians he called on in his work as a pharmaceutical rep. He often took doctor friends fishing . His fish pictures were his calling card. Fred was proud that his son David continued the family fishing tradition as a professional charter captain.

Fred was a good marksman and he liked to hunt anything that could fly or run. He enjoyed shooting clays off the river bank behind their house. Fred loved teaching marksmanship to others, including his 9 grandchildren. Some of their best memories are shooting at empty vitamin bottles with their grandpa.

After Fred retired and the children were grown, Mary Alice and Fred enjoyed trips to the beach and cruising. They took daily bike rides around Jerico Island, often stopping to chat with neighbors. Fred liked to exercise and took a daily "stroll" as he called it. He wanted to live to 100 – but only if Mary Alice was by his side.

Fred was a member of First Baptist Church of Richmond Hill for 50+ years and served as an usher on Sundays. He would greet folks with a church bulletin, a smile, and often a fish picture. Back in the day you could find Mary Alice and Fred sitting with their 4 children in the 3 rd pew on the right every Sunday of the year. Fred and Mary Alice were blessed to have many friends at church and in their Sunday School class. Fred was loved by all.

Fred is survived by his his four children: Fred Clark Jr (Coie) of West Palm Beach, FL, Daughter Becky (Blair) Faulk .Pembroke, GA, son David (Sally) Newlin Richmond Hill, Ga. and daughter Cindy (Dan) Desjardins of Madison, Wisconsin. Grandchildren: Wes (Diana) Faulk, Jeff (Samantha) Faulk, Anna Ruth (Steven) Parrish, Don (Jessica) Faulk, Caitlin Desjardins, Tyler Desjardins, Danica Newlin, and Bianca (Jonathan) Jelf, 15+ Great Grandchildren and many Nieces and Nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Alice Trammell Newlin, his parents Ola Strother Newlin and L.K. Newlin Sr. , Brother: Dr. L.K. Newlin Jr. (Beulah) of Valdosta, GA, Grandson: Fred Clark Newlin III (Juni) and Great Grandsons: Victor Parrish and Jackson Jelf.

Visitation will be held 6-8 PM, Friday, June 23,2023 at the Richmond Hill Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church Richmond Hill, Saturday, June 24, at 11AM with burial to follow in the First Baptist Cemetery.
