Fred Wesley Merritt

Born in Lancaster, South Carolina on May 29, 1936

Gone home to be with the Lord on October 21, 2018

Fred is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirlyn Cannady Merritt; two daughters Sharon Merritt Carrick (spouse Mike) and Karon Merritt Stone (spouse John), and son Wesley Shannon Merritt (spouse Candace).   He has one living sister, Eloise Merritt Floyd.  His deceased sisters: Bernice Rogers, Eunice Rogers and Dot Rush.

Grandchildren/Great Grandchildren are Ryan Carrick (spouse Jenna) and their children are Caleb, Carley, Mercer and Mac; Elizabeth Stone Douglass (spouse Tim) and their children are Ella and Rosie, Joey Stone, Melinda Poole, Dylan Raffield, Shannon Merritt, Brandon Merritt, Trent Rogers, and Ailee Rogers.

Fred's life exemplified his strong faith and love for God, his family and friends.  Fred never met a stranger and was always ready to help others. He was known by his outgoing personality, love of the outdoors, anything to do with the water (fishing, crabbing, boating), golfing, landscaping, fellowship with friends and family, reminiscing of the past and his love of food. He was also known for giving advice and his opinion, joking around and teasing. He will be fondly remembered and truly missed.  The family is assured by God's promise that his body is restored and renewed and will be reunited again in Heaven.
