Douglas James Bufford, Jim to his family and friends, died Sunday morning at home at the age of 61. He was born in Mobile, Alabama on February 13, 1957.

Jim leaves behind his wife, Sherry McCumber; his son and grandson, Cody and Cooper Bufford; his Mother and Step-father, Emily and Gus Gibson; his Father, Earl Bufford, Sr.; his brother and sister-in-law, Earl "Bubba" and Janice Bufford; his sister and brother-in-law, Jane Sanders and Alan Singleton; along with nieces and Shanna (Sam) Blair, Christy (Michael) Giles, and Ashleigh (Jesse) Allgood, Michael and Brandy Bufford; and great nephews and niece, Braylon, Logan and Emma Jo; as well as several Aunts, Uncles and cousins. Jim's family was very dear to him, and he wanted them to know it.

Jim's most outstanding characteristics were that he never met a stranger, that he would do anything he could to help others, and that he always wore s mile. He genuinely liked people.  He was hardworking and loyal to his friends and family.

Jim retired from federal service in 2015 after a very rewarding and successful career. He spent 4 years in the Air Force and 31 years as a federal civilian employee with the Defense Logistics Agency, FEMA, and the U.S. Corps of Engineers.  He loved his work and was especially proud of the work he did during the hurricane Katrina recovery efforts in New Orleans and his two deployments to Iraq, supporting the troops as a Corps employee.

He truly loved to fly small airplanes, though he had not had the opportunity in recent years. He loved to fish, do yard work and haul "stuff" across country for U-ship.  He found all of those activities soothing.  He especially valued the connections he made with folks along the way.  He will be remembered fondly by all who really knew him, and forever adored by his family.
