Denzel "Ray" Raymond Shores Jr.

Ray Shores, age 85, met his precious Lord and Savior on September 25, 2026. The Savior he taught about for almost 50 years. His faith now sight as he bowed on his knees to worship his Savior face to face. Ray was dedicated to teach of the Salvation found alone in Jesus Christ. His love for Jesus was evident by the amount of Bible Study and preparation put into every lesson. He loved studying God’s word and it showed as he shared what he learned with every class he taught. His classes were filled with friends that he truly loved, cared about and prayed for. He was a humble servant always sharing his own flaws and shortcomings with the class.

Ray was born in Arcadia, Florida but his job with Publix moved him around the state. In 1973 he took a job in Georgia and this began his professional life here. He was a businessman and owned and operated several businesses though out the years. Most of his life was centered around the grocery business however, he spent his last 20 work years in the restaurant business. He was a hard worker and demanded customer service be a top priority. His employees became family and he loved and cared about each one. He accomplished many achievements in his professional life but none were as important as his home life. He loved his large family with his whole heart, always putting their needs ahead of his own.

Throughout his life, Ray loved sports. “Man” did he love sports! Football, Softball, Golf, Track, Tennis, and weightlifting were his favorites. He participated in many until his heart would no longer let him. He was thankful for his long joyous life and the many joys and experiences God blessed him with.

Ray is survived by many friends and a loving family including his beloved wife of 49 years, Pamela Clifton Shores, by his 2 sons and daughter. Mitch (Kim), Bryan, Christi (Donald). He thought his life was complete and here comes 7 wonderful Grandchildren; Jessi, Ray (Trasity), Alexis (Marshal), Dawson, Alaina, Drew (Anna) and Mia. Then, when he thought life could not get any sweeter, here comes 14 Great Grandchildren. Being an only child, he was thankful for all his family including a special sister in-law and brother in-law, Gina and Perry Mincey and a “like a daughter”, Shellie Weir, as well as wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins. What more could a man ask for? He was so very thankful for God’s richest blessings and we are thankful for the Heritage Ray left behind.

The celebration of Ray’s life will be held on September 29, 2026 at Richmond Hill First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with service following at 12 p.m.

A Private Family Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey West, Dean Forest Road, Savannah, Ga.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to FBC Eleos Ministry or Savannah Hospice.
