Midway-Daniel "Danny" Dewey Bland, Sr., age 74, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah after a lengthy illness.

Danny was born in Phenix City, AL and has lived in Midway for the past 16 years.  He retired from CSX Railroad after many years of service.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served on the USS Saratoga.  Danny was a member of Midway First Baptist Church where he loved singing in the choir.  He enjoyed working in the yard, but his passion was woodworking.

Danny is survived by his wife, Joanne G. Bland of Midway, GA; daughters, Carol Diane Lewis of Birmingham, AL, and Holly Anne Baker of Savannah, GA; sons, Daniel Dewey Bland, Jr. of the Philippines, Bob Mathews Jr. of Conover, NC, Barry Mathews of Appling, GA; sister, Jeannie Hargrove of Byron, GA; a brother, Jimmy Wilton Bland (Relma) of Brunswick, GA; four granddaughters; one grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Midway First Baptist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service.  The Rev. J. C. Wright will officiate.

Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Zoar Cemetery in Baxley, GA.
