Dale C. Mitchum, age 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Dale was born on December 21, 1929 in Ludowici, Georgia, the son of Eugene Dewey Mitchum and Ruth Long Mitchum. Dale grew up and graduated from Richmond Hill High School in 1947, where he met his late wife, Jacquelyn Simmons Mitchum. He was a U.S. Air Force military veteran with the Office of Special Investigations as a special agent.
Dale received a degree from Arizona State University and was employed as a criminal investigator with the U.S. Treasury Department, serving in several positions. During his career, he served as Associate Director of the Federal Law Enforcement Center and was a graduate of the Federal Executive Institute. After retirement, Dale served Bryan County on the Planning and Zoning Board, Board of Tax Assessors, and 2 terms as Chief Magistrate Court Judge.
Dale was an active member of the Richmond Hill United Methodist Church and choir, a charter member of the Richmond Hill Historical Society, and a member of the Richmond Hill Lions Club. He was also a Mason.
Dale will be remembered as a true southern gentleman with a kind and gentle spirit. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Richmond Hill, Georgia at 11am on Saturday, March 14, 2026. Dale's request was, in lieu of flowers, to please make a donation in his memory to the Way Station Food Pantry at Church of the Hill, 9050 Ford Avenue, Richmond Hill, GA 31324.
