Craig Scott Bartlett, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on January 15, 2017 after a short illness. He had battled serious lung problems for several years. He was born on April 24, 1933 in Montclair, N.J. and was the eldest son of Craig Scott Bartlett and Gertrude Louise Selvage. He attended local Montclair schools, including Montclair Academy, the recently renamed Buzz Aldrin Middle School and was a graduate of the Kent School in Kent, Conn. where he played varsity basketball and baseball and was a sub on the Softball team.

Mr. Bartlett attended Princeton University and subsequently took accounting and business courses at New York University, the City College of New York and the American Institute of Banking. He was a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking (then held at Rutgers University) and completed an advanced Management course at Pennsylvania State University. He also served in the United States Army.

He started his banking career at Chemical Bank and later was a Vice President of the Bank of New York. In 1968 he went into the Investment banking business and spent the next five years with several small investment banking firms. In 1973 he returned to Commercial Banking with a predecessor of National Westminster Bank, USA. In 1990 when he accepted early retirement, he was an Executive Vice President, Chairman of the Credit Policy Committee and Senior Lending Officer.

Post retirement, for the next 23 years, Mr. Bartlett devoted his time to Corporate Board work, usually as Chairman or a member of the company's audit committee. Among companies he served as a Director for were NVR, Inc., Bucyrus International, the Montclair Savings Bank, Janus, Inc. and the Abraxas Petroleum Corporation. During his career. Mr. Bartlett served over 30 years as an Arbitrator for the NASD, New York Stock Exchange and FINRA.

Mr. Bartlett raised his family in Montclair, NJ. In retirement he relocated to The Ford Plantation in Richmond Hill, GA. Mr. Bartlett enjoyed his weekly Bridge games and was active as an Advisory board member of the Savannah Philharmonic. One of his great joys was his yearly trip to his beloved Rockywold Deephaven camps on Squam Lake in New Hampshire. Beginning in his childhood and spanning four generations of his family, this provided an opportunity for his entire family to gather for a week of laughter, games, and fun. Scott loved people and nothing made him happier than to be in a crowd telling his favorite story or working up to a great punch line. Even in retirement he remained active as a "day trader" and his daily call to his good friend and broker Shelley was the highlight of his day.

Mr. Bartlett is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Lewis Bartlett; his brother Bruce Selvage Bartlett (wife Kathy) and children; his children Dr. Craig S. Bartlett, III (wife Dr. Colleen Parker) of Shelburne VT, Laura Mason Bartlett of Ashburn VA, Susan Bartlett Rankin of Tiburon CA, and Robert Gary Gryce (wife Linda) of Kingwood TX. His grandchildren include Craig Scott Bartlett, IV, Charles Demarest Bartlett, Lutes Elizabeth Bartlett, Connor Mason Rankin, Maxon West Parker Bartlett, Eleanor Jay Parker Bartlett, Tyler William Parker Pawloski, Emily Elizabeth Gryce, and Andrew Robert Gryce.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Richmond Hill Funeral Home with Father Clark Hubbard officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
