Richmond Hill, GA – Charles Wash, 81, died June 9, 2017.  He was born in the Cleora section of Edgefield County and attended school there through the 7 ^th grade.  He was a member of the Edgefield High School class of 1953.  After graduation, he worked for several years at the Belk department store on the square.  To make more money to pay for college costs, he later did construction work in Chicago where wages were much higher.  He enrolled in Clemson College in 1958 and graduated with a BS degree in 1962.

Later, Charles went to work with the Army Corps of Engineers.  He worked for years in a branch office in Raleigh and had tours of duty in Germany, England, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.  In 1995 he retired as a Branch Chief in the district office in Savannah.  He was afterwards elected to the Corps' Gallery of Distinguished Employees where his photograph hangs today.

Surviving are his wife Kathy of Richmond Hill; sister, Brenda Creswell of Modoc Rd, Edgefield; daughters, Bonnie, Ellie, and Stacey and son, Mitch.  Deceased are parents John and Blanche Wash and brothers Marion, Claude and Ansel.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Richmond Hill with Rev. Brian Cooper officiating.
