Caroll Erquit Hardy, Sr., age 88, passed away Friday, September 10, 2021 under the care of Hospice Savannah and Seasons Memory Care in Richmond Hill, GA surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Hardy was born on May 30, 1933 in Metter, GA, the son of the late Woodrow and Catherine Hardy. He was a graduate of Commercial High School in Savannah, GA and after graduating he began a career with Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company/ATT where he retired after working 45 years. He loved his Country and served through the Georgia Air National Guard Reserve, 165 th Airborne for 26 years. As a young man he enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, and vacationing with his family. After retiring from AT&T and the Reserves, he enjoyed his retirement while travelling with his wife Pat, and their beloved dogs Penny and Mimi, in their RV across the USA visiting most states, including Alaska and Canada. He worked part-time at different campgrounds where they met many great friends. They also enjoyed working part-time at the KOA Campground in Richmond Hill, GA. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Temple in Savannah, GA before moving to the Richmond Hill United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Lions Club and the Masonic Lodge.
He was born in Metter, GA but lived most of his life in Savannah and Richmond Hill. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Henderson Hardy, three children Cathy Gardner (Chuck), Mary Baggett (Doug) and Caroll E. Hardy, Jr. (Richard), grandchildren Tommy Strickland, Jr. (April), Matthew Gardner, Andrea Gardner, and Tayler Douglas, and great grandson Thomas Strickland III. He is also survived by two sisters Barbara Ann Portwood of Thomaston, GA and Sandra Gay of Richmond Hill, GA. He is also survived by three stepdaughters/grandchildren, Cindy Lowrey (Robert), Katie and Kristen Gilmore, Sophia Witmer; Wendy Corbin (Tom), Natalie, Knox; Tricia Ainsworth, Olivia and Hope, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Woodrow and Catherine Hardy, the mother of his children, Mary Helen Brightwell Hardy, sisters, Jeanette Nipper and Ida Kay Smoak.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 from 5-7 at the Richmond Hill Funeral Home, 8901 Ford Avenue, Richmond Hill, GA.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Richmond Hill United Methodist Church, 9050 Ford Avenue, Richmond Hill, GA, burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Abby East with Military honors.
