Billy Lee Coon, 87, passed away peacefully at Candler Hospital in Savannah, GA on November 6, 2017.

He was the son of the late Glen and Nelle Coon. Billy was born in Champaign, IL on August 6, 1930.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Marion Janiak Coon.

After graduating high school, Billy proudly served his country in the United State Air Force. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he graduated from the University of Illinois, College of Engineering.  Billy worked in the construction industry for a number of years prior to starting Pyramid Construction in 1968.  In 1972 he purchased the Shaw Ready Mix Company.  He owned and operated both companies for over 25 years.  Prior to retiring to Richmond Hill, GA in 2005, Billy worked at the Corps of Engineers for 10 years.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and training dogs. Billy continued to shoot trap and skeet competitively until his death.

He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Barnard (Bruce) of Urbana, IL and his son, Michael Coon (Teresa) of Richmond Hill, GA. He has seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Richmond Hill Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service.
