Betty Sue Neal (Hiser) peacefully entered into eternal rest on October 11,2026, the morning after her 98th birthday holding hands with her grandchildren Dawn Marie and Chris, and great niece Jenna. Proud of her roots and a true coal miner’s daughter, she was born in Ansted, WV in 1928 to parents Gilbert and Dainty HIser. Betty was one of 5 children(Oscar, Faye, Doris, Boyd). She was a good storyteller, and entertained family with stories of her growing up, her extended family, and large family reunions.
She met her husband Clay Neal while on a runaway horse…the rest was history. She had 4 children(Raleigh(Julie), Wayne(Vicky,d), Debbie(Bobby), Dede(Mike)10 grandchildren(Dawn Marie, Chris, Jon, Devin, Holly, Bob, Nicole, Miles, Connor, Daniela)19 great grandchildren. 6 great great grandchildren. Betty loved and enjoyed all of her nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She looked forward to the Apple Butter making every year. She enjoyed her grandchildren having extended stays during the summers. Beyond Ansted, Seawright Springs in the Shenandoah Valley of VA was her favorite place to be. Later in life, she was able to live with and help raise her grandson Connor and later Daniela, which she found great joy in. Throughout her life, she had different jobs, but she was most proud of owning a successful restaurant in Union Point, GA called Benede’s. People still talk about her lasagna to this day. She was an avid gardener and loved to sit out on the porch and watch birds. She would also love to go on a boat ride with sons Raleigh and Wayne. Every year, her family looked forward to Thanksgiving with her cooking, especially her homemade pies.
Throughout her years , she enjoyed staying with her sons and daughters, enjoying the scenery of their homes such as the marshlands of Midway and the mountains of Landrum. She always would say how thankful she was to be able to do this. The last 2 months of her life, she found humor and great joy staying at her granddaughter Holly’s house and watching the antics of her children Letha and Clay.
She will be missed by her whole family, losing who everyone considered the matriarch of the family is such a loss.
Arrangements will be made at a later date in Ansted, WV.
