Benita Orsini Hupman

Benita Orsini Hupman passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 5, 2026. She was born in Washington, D.C., and had lived in Fairway, Kansas, for the past 27 months. Prior to that, she lived in Jacksonville, Florida, for 30 years and Tampa, Florida, for 20 years.

Benita worked for the Congressional Monitor in Washington, D.C., the Appalachian Regional Commission, and the Peace Corps in Liberia, West Africa. She later worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block before retiring. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Mission, Kansas.

Benita was devoted to her family and especially enjoyed being involved in the activities of her children when they were young. The family enjoyed taking long road trips together, and she was particularly active in Odyssey of the Mind. She enjoyed sewing and was an excellent cook. Among her many specialties were lasagna, blueberry peach pie, turtle cheesecake, and pecan pies. Her pies were so well-loved that she won numerous awards for them, including an award at the Florida State Fair. Benita was also known for her unmistakable laugh, which could be heard from far away. After her children left home, Benita and her husband, Mark, enjoyed going out to eat together every day.

Benita was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Orsini; and six siblings, Andrea, Lucy, Rose, Joanne Theresa, Michael, and Antoinette.

She is survived by her husband, Mark Hupman; daughter, Angela Elizabeth Sperry (Dr. Brett Sperry); her son, Jeff Hupman (Chandie Hupman); sisters, Gloria, Patricia, Rita, and Alice; and grandchildren, Giovanna, Alexandra, Carina, Eliza, Noah, and Olive.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 14, 2026, at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Savannah, Georgia, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Catholic Cemetery.
